Hopes raised as output grows for ninth straight month

The construction industry is hoping the worst of the supply chain issues that continue to dog projects may have peaked.

Total activity for October rose to 54.6, up from the score of 52.6 the month before, according to the latest PMI (Purchasing Managers’ Index) data drawn up by IHS Markit and CIPS.

The latest figure means output has grown in each of the last nine months, with the figure in June reaching 66.3, a 24-year high, but which is increasingly looking like an anomaly.
